School meal accounts

Can parents please ensure that there are sufficient funds on their child's cashless catering account. We have had several instances of students not having enough funds to pay for their lunches.

PGL 1 Year 7 Tutor groups A-E 22-24 September

Wednesday 22 September

• Students to do a lateral flow test before coming to school (instead of Thursday).
• Arrive normal time in clothes suitable for doing outdoor activities.
• Make sure luggage and all belongings are labelled.
• No mobile phones.
• Any medication required over the three days needs to be handed to Mrs Stewart in reception with a completed medical form.

Friday 24 September

• We are due back between 2.15 and 2.30pm. Students being met can leave as soon as we get back. Students waiting for siblings can wait in Wingfield Hall until 3pm.

On Thursday, around 60 of our year 9 students were chosen to take part in our STEM activity day! An external company came in and guided students through an aircraft challenge where students had to construct an aeroplane powered by a propeller mechanism and with a fuselage constructed out of balsa wood. 

Our year 9s really rose to the challenge and produced some fantastic aircrafts. It was most impressive to see how they improved their teamwork skills, worked on budgets and even presented their aeroplanes to the whole group. 

Well done year 9s, you should be really proud of your hard work.

Year 7 Power Hour

Year 7 have now completed their first cycle of the timetable and have made a superb start. We have been impressed with how quickly they have found their way round and adapted to John of Gaunt routines. They have collected more than 4000 reward points already.

This week in tutor time they have been learning how to self-quiz using the knowledge organisers and the expectation is that from today all students are doing all 3 elements of the homework:

20 mins self quizzing

20 mins Hegarty Maths

20 mins reading

The expectation is that students will look at two subjects a night, but we do only want students to be spending an hour in total on their work. If your child is struggling to complete the self quizzing element please sign off their work after 20 minutes and get in touch with their tutor for further guidance.

The knowledge organiser is available on the website in the ‘Student’ section, so they can look it up there if they can’t find their copy.

Supporting Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance at JoG

The Careers and Next Steps Fair is coming……

Next month, on Wednesday 13^th October our Careers and Next Steps Fair is back and in person!

This will be an opportunity for students in years 9-13 to come and talk to a range of employers, local colleges and universities to get them thinking about life beyond school.

Some of those already confirmed include; the NHS, RSPCA, Amey, Selwood Housing, Armed Forces, Goughs Solicitors, Dorothy House, Dragon Capital, Butterfly Care, Swansea University, Portsmouth University, Plymouth University, Winchester University, Wiltshire College, Bath College.
